El pleno del Senado de Estados Unidos aprobó el T-MEC, acuerdo comercial con México y Canadá con lo que finalmente se cuenta con la ratificación de ambas cámaras del Congreso.
Por 89 votos a favor y 10 en contra, el Senado se sumó al aval en la Cámara de Representantes, y la legislación ahora solo necesita la firma del presidente Donald Trump, que se espera para la próxima semana, y la ratificación en Canadá para entrar en vigor.
La versión final del T-MEC ya fue ratificada por el Senado mexicano el 12 de diciembre, en tanto Canadá ha prometido confirmar el acuerdo una vez que Estados Unidos lo adopte.
Dicho acuerdo reemplazará al TLCAN, implementado hace 25 años y al cual Trump y muchos legisladores responsabilizan de haber provocado que las empresas mudaran empleos manufactureros de Estados Unidos a México.
